Sheila A.
Private tutor in Norwalk, CT
Education
I have a Masters Degree in Reading and Professional Certifications in Elementary Education and K-12 Special Education. I also have specialized training in several approaches and programs including Orton-Gillingham, PAF, Literacy How, and Linda Mood Bell Lips.
Experience
I have been teaching for 14+ years. I have several years experience as a special education teacher and am currently a first grade classroom teacher. In literacy, much of my experience has been working with emergent readers of all ages, including primary age students learning foundational skills and older students with specific learning disabilities. I truly enjoy helping children become readers and it brings me so much joy when kids begin to think of themselves as readers too! Another passion is supporting students in developing a deep understanding of math concepts. Kids who have deep conceptual understanding are more likely to be successful with advanced mathematics as they grow. I offer tutoring for students in pre-school, elementary and middle school. I also work with older students on study skills, organization and executive functioning skills and strategies. I am new to University Tutors but I can certainly provide references upon request!
